What is a B Corp™?
You may have heard the term B Corp™, but do you have a clear understanding of the meaning behind being a B Corp™?
B Corps™, or Benefit Corporations, are businesses certified by B Lab for meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. These companies aim to balance profit with purpose and create a positive impact for their people, the planet, and their communities.
The Five Scoring Pillars
Becoming a B Corp™ isn’t just an easy certification, there’s a detailed scoring process that businesses must follow. So what steps do businesses actually have to take to officially become a B Corp™?
At Phonetic Digital we consider every step we can take to a more sustainable future. We even collect rain water from our office roof that we then use to water the office plants!
However, not all the steps to becoming a B Corp™ can be that small.
The first step on our B Corp™ journey was completing the B Impact Assessment. It’s a thorough look at how we’re doing across five key areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers.
Governance – How transparent and accountable is your business? For us this includes our business structure, leadership, ethics, and overall decision-making processes.
Workers – How do you treat your employees? This covers things like employee benefits, work-life balance, and overall job satisfaction.
Community – How does your business engage with and support the community? Here at Phonetic Digital we prioritise creating positive social impact by being engaged with our local community.
Environment – What’s your environmental footprint? This looks at how we reduce energy use and control waste management to create sustainable operations.
Customers – How do you create value for your customers and ensure their well-being? Transparency is extremely important for us at Phonetic Digital, we always aim to create customer satisfaction by providing clear and detailed services.
The B Impact Assessment was essentially a deep dive into how we do business. Your score is based on the real impact your business is making. To become a certified B Corp™, a business must score a minimum of 80 points out of 200 on the B Impact Assessment.
Again, for us it’s not about ticking boxes, it’s about proving that you’re genuinely making a difference in the world.
