As we head towards the festive break, December feels like the perfect moment to celebrate what’s been a really positive end to the year for us at Phonetic. From meaningful events and client work, to milestones we’re incredibly proud of, it’s been a busy and uplifting few weeks.
Building an inclusive digital Sunderland.
We were delighted to hold our digital accessibility event here in Sunderland, and the brilliant turnout reinforced exactly why we’re so passionate about championing digital inclusion.
Nicol McConnell from Sunderland City Council shared some eye-opening insights about our city, including the fact that 13,900 people are still offline and that 28% of residents have low digital capability. Sunderland City Council continues to do fantastic work to close this gap.

🎉 It was our ‘B’ day! 🎉
This month also marked a big milestone for us. It’s officially been one year since we became a certified B Corp.
For anyone new to the movement, B Corps are companies that commit to making a positive impact, not making profit at expense of people or the planet.
For us, being a B Corp is about more than meeting a standard. Instead, it means continually reflecting on our choices as a business, monitoring how we work, who we work with, and the kind of impact we want to have.
It’s been an amazing first year! As we reflect, we’re incredibly grateful for how far we’ve come and we’re even more excited about where we’re heading.

We’re always grateful that we get to work with such amazing clients that work towards the same values as us. We wrapped up the year with some brilliant client work, including capturing the Responsible Finance Member Day experience. It was great to see first-hand the important work Responsible Finance and its CDFI members are driving across the inclusive finance sector.

Another great moment this December was officially receiving our ISO 9001:2015 Certificate of Registration. 👏
ISO 9001:2015 is recognised globally as a mark of quality, safety and trust and it shows that a product or service has been independently assessed to meet a clearly defined standard.
Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our ISO 90001 journey. And a huge, thank you to our very own Matthew Bryson. His hard work and continued commitment has made all the difference.
